I took this picture from the balcony of Doug & Michael's loft in Milwaukee's Third Ward neighborhood. Milwaukee looked so beautiful lit up that night.

Battle of the Boxes: A Review for those behind the times

So for those of you on top of your media and celelbritory "goings-ons" this will be quite old news for you. I was out at Art Bar, one of my favorite watering-holes, having a little birthday shindig when someone - they will remain anonymous to save them the shame of their very behind the times request - couldn't believe that "we" hadn't told him about My Dick In A Box with Justin Timberlake from the Saturday Night Live skit in December.

I know it can be a lot of work to keep up with the rest of the world. Why do all the legwork when I can do it for you? So for those in the slow lane like my friend last night these videos are for you. Enjoy.

The video that started it all off from SNL, My Dick In a Box

...and the much funnier, and I believe superior, My Box In a Box by Bunny.

Check it out and let me know if it's HOT or NOT! Also, the Gay Pimp got a facelift on his website so jump on over there to see what's new.

UPDATE!
Below is a higher res version of the video. Thanks to Masterme85 for the link. Watch the video and leave your comments! HOT or NOT!

Hold the bus: The Gyllenator is seeing who???

Somebody please slap me and tell me I'm dreaming. Or more acurately having a horrible nightmare. I tried to pretend the rumors simply were untrue . I might need to hop on a plane and tell that Reese Witherspoon to back-off! How dare she get cozy with the Gyllenator?!?!

"In the last month, they've been spending a lot more time together," a source close to Gyllenhaal told People, "Jake really likes her and isn't at all concerned that she has two kids."

The two co-stars are shooting the CIA thriller, Rendition. I'm hoping that they are talking business...and not actually getting together. Please tell me it's not true!

Man attacks painting at Milwaukee Art Museum

A 21 year-old Pewaukee man will likely want to declare bankruptcy after he gets the bill for the damage he caused to a painting at the Milwaukee Art Museum on Thursday. The man began kicking Ottavio Vannini's 1620 painting The Triumph of David because the image disturbed him.

The painting is valued at $300,000 and was on loan from the Haukohl Family Collection. It's unknown whether the painting will be able to be restored. The attacker was disturbed by the severed head of the giant and kicked a hole in the bottom right corner before he was surrounded by security guards and museum staff.

After he finished kicking the painting he took off his shirt and laid on the ground where he remained calmly until the police arrived. He faces felony damage to property which may mean up to 3 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

News: N.H. Unions, Goodbye Abstinence, and Hello Baby!

ABSTAIN THIS: WISCONSIN TO GIVE UP VIRGINITY FEDERAL FUNDING FOR ABSTINENCE-ONLY EDUCATION
In 1998 when President Bush asked Congress to carve out $25 million dollars for an abstinence-only curriculum in America's schools only California told the goverment to shove it. Despite knowing the devestating effects of teaching abstinence-only education many states opened their wallets to this new funding.

Things are beginning to change and states are starting to revolt against the federal mandates. Wisconsin will join five other states - Ohio, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Montana, New Jersey - this year in turning down the federal abstinence-only funding.

In Ohio, Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland said that he didn't see the point in taking part in the controversial State Abstinence Education Program anymore.

"Just saying no is not working," said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, which advocates comprehensive sex education, including contraceptive information. "These are efforts by the federal government to fund ideological programs, not healthcare or medical programs."

Opponents of comprehensive sex education insist that young people that get the "information" will start having sex. Somehow these people believe that keeping young people in the dark will somehow help them. Like they are doing them a huge favor. What happens when these youth turn 18, graduate from high school, and are out in the world and have no idea how to use a condom? Will they go ask their parents? I don't think so.

It's as easy as this: When you go to the store and buy an umbrella do you somehow make it rain? No! You buy an umbrella in case it rains, so you don't get wet. Teaching kids about safer sex and condoms doesn't make them have sex. It protects them WHEN they do.

I DO: NEW HAMPSHIRE TO GET CIVIL UNIONS??
When New Hampshire's Senate approves that state's new Civil Unions bill and it goes to Governor John Lynch it will become the fifth state to provide protections to same-sex couples and their families. According to Rep. Mo Baxley, who serves as the executive director for the Freedom to Marry Coaltion, the bill will pass the Senate with all 14 democrats and a few republicans voting to approve.

The bill made it through New Hampshire's House last week by a vote of 243-129. If this bill makes it through New Hampshire's Senate and is signed by Gov. John Lynch that will make New Hampshire the first state in the country to provide legal recognition and protections for same-sex couples without judicial intervention.

There are currently three other states in the United States that provide civil unions: Vermont, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Only Massachusetts allows same-sex couples to enter into marriages. California and Maine have limited access to rights through Domestic Partner Registries.

"We support our state in every way asked of us as citizens, yet we do not get equal treatment from the state in return," said New Hampshire Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson. "What we seek in the civil realm is the equal treatment by the state government in supporting this development of our relations with the legal, financial and societal underpinnings which are afforded married couples at the very moment they say, 'I do.' "

The bill is expected to get a vote out of committee this week and be up for a full Senate vote next week.

MAYBE BABY: COLORADO OPENS DOOR TO ADOPTION?
Colorado seems very close to opening the door for same-sex couples to adopt children. Colorado's Senate gave initial backing to the bill (House Bill 1330) late Wednesday despite Republican grumblings that the aim was to promote the homosexual agenda. The bill has already been approved by the House and needs to be voted on once more in the Senate before it goes to Governor Bill Ritter.

Colorado law currently allows gay/lesbian/bisexual individuals the right to adopt but doesn't allow same-sex parents to jointly adopt. This bill would allow second-parent adoptions which would allow same-sex couples and other non-traditional families like grandparents raising their grandchildren to protect their families.

"It's not about the children at all. It's about furthering this homosexual agenda and about attempting to continue to narrow the gap between marriage and the concept of a homosexual union," said Sen. Dave Schultheis, R-Colorado Springs.

Than who is this about Mr. Schultheis? You? Me?

It's about children and families. Wouldn't our world be much better off if every child was being raised by loving parents - that also had access to health insurance? Now that's a novel idea!

And, do people still really use this "homosexual agenda" thing? Come on! You don't even want to know what my homosexual agenda is.....

Fags, On Film: The Pursuit of Happyness

Welcome to the very first edition of Fags, On Film.

You may be asking yourself what exactly is Fags, On Film or, perchance, you might be thinking..."Oh, please...how original!" Though the title may lead you to believe that there will be more than one fag talking about film, chances are it's just me. But, you know I love surprises so mayhaps (yes, that's maybe and perhaps) I'll bring along a guest fag occasionally.

THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS
I heard some initial buzz about this film during the holidays and since it was based on the life of a Milwaukee man I figured I should check it out. It also didn't hurt that Will Smith was in it.

Will Smith does a pretty good job as Chris Gardner - a brilliant man with a ton of bad luck and not nearly enough money. The real show stealer here though is Jaden Smith - Will Smith's real-life son - playing Christopher Gardner, Chris Gardner's son. The duo have great synergy together and you can't help but continually think how cute Christopher (Jaden Smith) is. That kid has got some real talent and it won't be long before he trades his Captain America doll for an Oscar.

The drawback of this film? If you are depressed or have thoughts about suicide do not see this film as you could fall into a depression so low there is no bringing you back. One might even contemplate slowing killing themselves -using blunt objects - as you are experience the pitfalls the characters endure throughout the movie. Besides bringing me down - A LOT - the film was great. And, if you can make it to the end without breaking out the Prozac or Valium, you should enjoy it.

All in all the film was pretty good. I started reaching for the medicine bottles half-way through but since they were so far away I chose to reach for my glass of wine instead.

My recommendation: Netflix It.

Blinded by the Right

Joe Murray, pictured, is a Religious right-wing activist who became drawn to the American Family Association because of its "prolife" positions -- and soon he started bashing gays without giving it "much thought."

"The whole gay issue is no longer about the quest for the Truth; it is about fear and loathing. It is about shame and sorrow. It is anything but Christian," said Murray in an interview with Pam Spaulding for her blog, Pam's House Blend.

I wonder how many others have been blinded by the right? Though I certainly don't agree with his politics I'm glad that Mr. Murray can realize when he's wrong.

Bite Me?

Is this for real?? Watch this clip and pay very close attention - particularly when there is about 18 seconds left. I really have no idea what to say about that....

SANJAYA: Love 'Em or Leave 'Em

Whether you watch the show or not - and barring living in a cave - you probably have heard the name Sanjaya in the past few months. I've never, ever followed American Idol but for some reason I feel a bit disappointed in American Idol voting off Sanjaya. The sh*t this kid has endured some nasty, hurtful comments. Being of dubious sexuality and mixed race (Italian/Indian) he was bold in his style and personality. Ultimately, he seems to have paid for his inability to fit into the mold. So, in honor of Sanjaya - who showed incredible poise throughout this processs (Rembember, he's 17 years old) I've gathered some of my favorite video clips.

SANJAYA VOTED OFF AMERICAN IDOL: Sanjaya Malakar is voted off of American Idol. How does a top vote getter in previous weeks fall to the bottom so fast?

WHAT THE BUCK?: The American Idol recap that you probably missed by a sassy gay guy. You go dog!

SANJAYA SINGS: An old clip of Sanjaya singing Swing Low, Sweet Chariot. Evidence that Sanjaya - though he might not have showed it on the show - really can sing.

HAIR BY SANJAYA: Why have boring hair when you can have Sanjaya hair? Hilarious infommerical from The Soup brings you the "House of Sanjaya".

HUNGER STRIKE?: So, some big girls decided they couldn't bare Sanjaya being on the show anymore because "American Idol is about talent and Sanjaya don't got none." So, they went on a "hunger strike" in protest. Here is a video response to the initial hunger strike. Solidarity!

One Step Forward In Washington

Washington Governor signs Domestic Partnership Law

Governor Chris Gregoire signs Washington's Domestic Partnership Bill into law this past Saturday. Legislators were moved by Charlene Strong's powerful story about the death of her partner in the flooding in Seattle last year.
